Day 25 Friday September 27, 2013

Today we drove from San Diego to Phoenix.
We had been expecting a boring drive through the desert, but to our surprise it was an interesting drive. The mountain range east of San Diego quickly rises to well over 4,000 ft and is comprised of mountains that look like someone just dumped a load of rocks! We then quickly descended and by the time we reached El Centro, only 100 miles from San Diego, we were 39 ft BELOW sea level!

We also saw the massive sand dunes of the Imperial Sand Dunes

and passed a massive solar energy plant under construction near Gila Bend, AZ. The Solana plant will have 1920 acres of solar trough technology capable of generating 280MW of power also with a 6 hour thermal storage!!
