Day 11 Friday September 13, 2013

We had a hard time deciding where to go on our only full day at Yellowstone, but decided to visit the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and then onto Mammoth Hot Springs in the north of the park.
En route to Canyon we drove around Yellowstone Lake and then drove along the Yellowstone River valley where we were treated to a Bison playing chicken with the traffic, the Bison won!
This is my road!
Got back into the car quickly after getting this look!
The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone has two falls the upper and lower and the most amazing colors as a result of all the volcanic activity. Saw a Bald Eagle in the canyon, a bonus.
Now you know as much as I do!

The Upper Falls
The Lower Falls, much higher than the Upper Falls!

Amazing canyon colors

More canyon colors
Then onto Mammoth Hot Springs where we were immediately treated to an Elk sighting, a bull, a cow and a young un on the hill behind the Lodge. Well better was to occur almost immediately, a Park Ranger comes dashing round the corner with sirens blaring, leaps out of his vehicle and gets us all to go to the top of some stairs outside a building all the while shouting, “The Big One's coming”!
No joke!
Bull Elk

Happy Family
The "Big One" is coming

Wow!
Then onto to Hot Springs, amazing.

On the way back to our Lodge saw another Bison close to the road and then finally a Coyote.
Coyote hunting small rodents
Yellowstone would take weeks to see everything, but I think that we hit the highlights.
