Day 5 - Crater Lake

First stop today was Crater Lake National Park; this is a lake that has formed in the caldera of a volcano that collapsed 6,600 years ago. The lake is the deepest in the US at 1,943 ft deep, and is the 7th deepest lake in the world. The color of the water is amazing; here are a few pictures to give you an idea….

You drive around the lake on a rim road that was a “make work” project in the 1930’s.

As we drove up to Crater Lake from Klamath Falls we encountered many cyclists en route to Crater Lake. They were doing either a 50 or 100 mile ride up to the lake and around it. Rather them than me as the elevation rise is over 3,000 ft! Posted by Picasa
