Wednesday July 24th - Stockholm

We entered the approach to Stockholm from the Baltic around 3am this morning and wound our way through the narrow passages between the many islands and eventually docked at about 8am. We caught a shuttle bus into the city center and spent a pleasant few hours wandering the old part of the city. We really enjoyed this and would certainly return to Stockholm, given the opportunity.

Phil and Lynne sightseeing
The return journey to the Baltic Sea, at a more appropriate time of day, gave us the opportunity to see the magnificent scenery of Sweden. It reminded us of the 1000 Islands of the St. Lawrence, but on a much larger scale.

One of the forts that protect the approach to Stockholm
The channel through the forts was very narrow and Robin had heard that the previous day when we had experienced high winds that no cruise ship had been able to dock in Stockholm and they had had to anchor about 10 miles downstream from the city and the passengers tendered into land and then bused into the city.

We are followed out of Stockholm
Next port of call, Helsinki.

I'm up for another visit as I think Stockholm is a great place. Any ideas when?
