Sunday July 28th - Tallinn

Tallinn as seen from the cruise terminal
Tallinn in Estonia was first shown on a World map in 1154 and is one of the oldest towns in the Baltic area. It achieved its major importance during the 13th to 15th centuries as one of the chief members of the Hanseatic League. This has been reflected today by its inclusion as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

After taking the shuttle bus into town we set of for the the Upper Town and made our way to the Alexander Nevsky Orthodox Cathedral where a service was in progress. A large procession was moving around the Cathedral and would stop at every cardinal point to bless the procession with holy water.

We meandered on to an overview and were rewarded with a view of the QV framed by the spires and towers of the Lower Town. Then it was time for a coffee before we descended to walk around the Lower Town.

Lower Town
Outside of the town walls we stumbled upon the Tallinn Flower Festival which we thoroughly enjoyed. Then back through the walls into the Lower Town admiring the many fine buildings and old street views before departing on the shuttle bus back to the dock where the QV awaited us.
