Day 9 - Portland to Anchorage

Alaska here we come...

We said our goodbyes to Jackie, Ben & John (Brian had left WELL before we got up) and then set off for Seattle and the flight to Anchorage. We were treated to a view of Mt. Hood as we left and on I5 up to Seattle also had good views of Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier. Got to the airport in Seattle about 1pm and returned the rental car which we had driven 1330 miles since picking it up in San Francisco. The flight to Anchorage on Alaska Airlines was on time and we arrived in Anchorage at about 5:15pm local time, we are now 4 hours behind the east coast. We did not have very good views as we landed, overcast and only 54F, but it did clear out later and here are some views from our hotel windows….

We picked up our next rental car, Toyota Sienna, and made our way to the hotel. We had phoned Gavin & Helen when we touched down and they arrived at the hotel from their friends just as we were unloading the van at the hotel, don’t you just love it when a plan comes together! We checked in and then met up with John & Vickie, Gavin & Helen’s friend from their days in Dubai, and their daughter Naomi and her husband Ryan at the Petroleum Club of Alaska, here we all are enjoying free drinks and hors d’ouvres!

We then went on and ate at the Moose’s Tooth, a very popular beer and pizza joint in Anchorage. Tomorrow we drive to Seward and meet up again with John & Vickie for dinner, they are going down to their boat which is moored in Seward. Posted by Picasa
