Borough Market, Hackney & Balham

It's Saturday evening and we're now back at Beryl's after a couple of days in London. We traveled up to London on Friday morning and spent a couple of hours wandering around Borough Market before we met up with Malcolm for lunch. Borough Market is very close to London Bridge and Southwark Cathedral and has historically been a fruit and veg market, but today caters food for lunches and a few days a week recreates its role as a market. Here is the wiki link for the market; Borough Market, and a few photos of the market.

Well maybe more that a few!

While waiting for Malcolm we had a coffee at Monmouth Coffee, reputedly the best coffee in London, here's a photo of our Flat White!

There as also a funeral underway at the Cathedral and we were amazed at the number of mourners and the flowers on the funeral cars, don't know whose funeral it was, but obviously well loved.

After we met up with Malcolm we found our lunch at a couple of the many street food vendors, Jill and I had a Kate and Sidney Pie (Steak and Kidney) and Malcolm had a Falafel wrap.

After lunch Malcolm went home as he had a half day only in the office and Jill and I went and checked into our hotel, The Melia White House, which is close to Regents Park. Around 5:30pm we went over to Homerton to meet up with Emma. We went to her flat for a cuppa and then walked into Hackney for a meal at a restaurant called Lardo. We had an enjoyable meal and enjoyed their signature dish, pizza that incorporates Lardo! After dinner, we walked Emma back to her flat and returned to the hotel were we enjoyed a nightcap in the hotel bar. No Woodford Reserve, but Knob Creek Bourbon will do just fine.

Saturday morning we checked out of the hotel and made our way to Balham for our visit with Ben, Charlie and Poppy Maisie-Mae. She's a good baby and spent the entirety of our visit asleep in Jill's arms!

Back at Reigate, Michael was keeping the fort when we arrived and Beryl and Sue were out shopping. A BBQ was organised and Malcolm and Val came over and Malcolm did a great job cooking the food.
