Gettysburg National Military Park and Harrisburg, PA

On Monday we visited Gettysburg, just a short drive from where we spent the night at Frederick, MD. We have driven past Gettysburg many times, but have never stopped, so this time we are! This was our route to Gettysburg.

Gettysburg is a very interesting place to visit and the movie at the visit center really sets the scene for the events that took place there in early July 1863. We also saw the Cyclorama that depicts the battle of July 3, 1863. It's 42 ft tall and 350 ft long! We then walked up to the National Cemetery and Mead's HQ before embarking on the auto tour that takes you around the entire battlefield. If you stopped at every monument I am sure it would take you ALL day!

After our visit to Gettysburg we had planned to drive onto Harrisburg for our overnight stay before our drive up Vernon, CT for our visit with Bruce and Nancy, but as we finished our visit to Gettysburg early we decided to get further up the road to Connecticut, and finally ended up at Fishkill, NY.
